The holiday season is in full swing, which means more people are travelling and vacationing than any other time of year. This is also the time when many struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The most wonderful time of the year can often become the most stressful – with increased end-of-the year workloads, family obligations, holiday parties and travel, it’s easy to get caught up in the commotion.

The act of effortlessly managing a work-life balance during the holidays is an art we all wish to master. Here are a few tips and tricks to help with juggling all of life’s priorities while remaining productive at work during the busy holiday season.

  1. Make a to-do list and check it twice.

Focus on organizing your personal and work responsibilities into calendars and to-do lists, allowing you to better prioritize your tasks. Once you’ve outlined all of your commitments and deadlines, decide which ones to drop, move to the back burner and those that can wait until the New Year. The relief of clearing out all unnecessary mental clutter can give you more time and motivation to complete your higher priority tasks more efficiently.

  1. Adopt a flexible schedule or work from home.

Remote working is slowly becoming the future of business. With solutions such as the ESI Ditto and Mobility Apps, working from home has never been easier. Take advantage of remote working technology by implementing a policy that allows employees to work around a flexible schedule. This allows those with lengthy commutes to get the same amount of work done without having to deal with the stress of traffic during the busiest travel time of the year.

  1. Take a few days off – you deserve it.

According to a recent survey on Glassdoor, Americans leave nearly half of their vacation days unused by the end of the year. This is mostly due to workers not feeling like they have the luxury or ability to leave the office. ESI’s business phones and remote working solutions can help diminish the stress of holiday travel by giving you the tools necessary to work from where you want, when you want. Whether you’re traveling to an exotic location or taking the day off to get some holiday shopping done, the opportunity to recharge away from the office is crucial to maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

  1. Stay focused and avoid distractions.

Although this time of year is typically filled with joy and cheer, the influx of so much activity can also be a major distraction when trying to get work done. While you are at work, be sure to focus only on work. Your holiday chores will be waiting for you when you get home, so there’s no need to bring them into the office with you. By categorizing your many tasks and planning ahead of time, you’ll feel less overwhelmed and stay on top of your obligations.
